What Our Parents are Saying about "Parent’s Math Night Out"

B9a5258e A survey was conducted on October 9, 2008 with the following questions and parent responses:

1.  Did you understand the math concepts taught tonight? (Please explain)

*Yes, I am pretty good at Algebra.  I attend to ensure that my son is doing the work in the steps that are required by the county.  The way I was taught is different sometimes!

*Yes, I felt it is very useful to me.  I remember from school but I need this refresher.

* Yes, Mr. Fields explained two step equations and graphing equations.

*Of course!  Mrs. Climer is a wonderful teacher.

*Yes, the examples and handouts made it easier.

*The teacher made it simpler.  She explained it easier.  The teacher gave me tips so I could remember the concepts.

2.  Do you feel confident enough to teach your child the concepts taught this evening?(Please explain)

*Yes, I feel confident enough if my child asked me.  I would be able to teach them.

*Yes, this is extremely helpful for parents and students as well.

*I can remember how the math is done.  I believe I will be able to explain to my child better.

*Yes, Handouts, notes, and I can always email or call.  Mrs. Climer and Mrs. Jenkins always answer agenda questions I send to school.

*Somewhat.  We will have to review back to the notes to get use to the methods.

*Yes.  But math night is useful for new insights and as a refresher.

*Yes and no.  It is coming back to me now.

Parent's Math Night Out 2008-2009

September 18, 2008 Garrett started "Parent's Math Night Out".  Each Thursday from 6:00PM-8:30PM math teachers teach parents what their children are learning the next week in math class. In sixth grade, students are invited to learn along with their parent/s.  Seventh grade is also participating in PMNO.  The purpose of the PMNO program is to prepare parents to be able help their children with math homework or assignments and to increase the communication between the school and home.  We encourage everyone to attend.

Img_0555_6 On September 18, 2008 Garrett had the first "Parent's Math Night Out" for sixth and seventh grades.  We had over 50 students and parents attending the first session.  "Help Us Help Your Students" !!  Img_0562
